NEW LOCATION,  NEW MISSION

Fortis Canine is proud to announce our relocation to Port Saint Lucie, Florida and the beginning of an exciting new chapter. As our operations evolve, Fortis Canine is transitioning away from independent dog training services within the KPRO K9 service area and moving into a more focused educational role. We remain committed to serving the community through PetTech Pet CPR and First Aid classes, AKC evaluations, service dog guidance, and owner education.

YOUR PET’S BEST ADVOCATE

Dog training services are now being provided through KPRO K9, where I serve full-time under contract as a professional dog trainer. This alignment reflects my confidence in KPRO K9’s mission, ethics, and commitment to delivering structured, reliable, and results-driven training. For clients seeking professional guidance, lasting obedience, and meaningful progress with their dogs, KPRO K9 is the trusted choice moving forward.

Fortis Canine was developed from the belief that dependable results come from clear standards, consistency, and a training approach built around the individual dog.

Beaux, a $50 blue heeler–Lab cross, became my lifeline, pulled me back from darkness, and inspired my dog training career; now retired at 10, he’s the dog who changed everything.

Combat veteran, retired Navy Diver Chief, and Master Dog Trainer James B. Halstead founded Fortis Canine from personal experience after PTSD, injuries, and the life-changing bond with his dog, Beaux. What began as recovery became a mission to serve others through exceptional dog training and support for veteran

Service Dog Resources

Clear, credible service dog education in one place — covering laws, rights, documentation guidance, etiquette, terminology, tasks, and handler responsibilities nationwide.

Education and knowledge are power when navigating life with a service dog. I have experienced the questions, the unwanted approaches, and the challenges handlers face in public. That is why I created this one-stop Service Dog Resources page, built from years of personal experience and the information I have learned to help others know their rights and be prepared.
