Fortis Canine LLC Arrives in Port Saint Lucie, Florida
Fortis Canine LLC is proud to begin this new chapter in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. After relocating from Saint Marys, Georgia, this move marks a strategic step forward in both my professional canine work and the continued growth of Fortis Canine LLC. It also allows me to be part of the new KPro K9 location in St. Lucie County while continuing to provide practical canine education, service dog resource support, and first aid preparedness tools for dog owners, handlers, trainers, and working dog professionals.
My name is James B. Halstead, and I bring a lifetime of service, leadership, and professional discipline to the canine field. I am a contract dog trainer with KPro K9, a Master Dog Trainer certified through Highland Canine School of Dog Trainers, and a PETTECH Pet CPR and First Aid Instructor. Through Fortis Canine LLC, I provide educational services related to service dog resources and laws, along with canine and pet first aid kits designed for both professionals and everyday dog owners.
A Strategic Move to Port Saint Lucie
Relocating to Port Saint Lucie was a purposeful decision. This move positions me to support the local community while also being part of the new KPro K9 presence in St. Lucie County. It creates new opportunities to serve handlers, families, trainers, facilities, and organizations in the region with trusted educational resources and practical canine preparedness solutions.
Fortis Canine LLC is committed to serving this growing area by making service dog-related information easier to access and by offering canine first aid products that support real-world needs. My focus remains on providing dependable, useful resources backed by professional experience and a strong standard of service.
A Background Built on Discipline and Service
My military career included 10 years in the Navy diving community as a First Class Navy Diver and Leading Chief Petty Officer, serving across four major diving commands. Interwoven throughout those years were 14 years in highly specialized EOD assignments, including service as an EOD Team Chief and combat tours with EOD units in Afghanistan and Iraq. Across 24 years of military service, I deployed to 42 countries and served on every major U.S. naval vessel platform, building a foundation of discipline, adaptability, precision, and sound judgment under pressure. In both my diving and EOD roles, I also worked alongside special forces, experiences that continue to influence the professional standards I bring to the canine field today.
That background continues to shape how I work today. Discipline, consistency, trust, and preparedness are central to my approach in canine training, handler education, and emergency readiness. Through my work around operational canine teams, I gained a deep respect for the reliability and communication required to build strong dogs and capable handlers.
Education and Professional Credentials
My work is informed by both operational experience and formal education. I hold the following academic credentials from Southern New Hampshire University:
- Master’s degree in Project Management
- Master’s degree in Operations Management
- Certificate in Supply Chain Management
- Bachelor’s degree in Allied Health
- Certificate in Mental Health Counseling
I also hold professional canine and emergency care credentials that support the services I provide:
- Master Dog Trainer certified through Highland Canine School of Dog Trainers
- AKC Evaluator
- Professional Member of the International Association of Canine Professionals
- Certified Advanced Law Enforcement K9 Decoy
- Impact K9 Tactical Combat Casualty Care Professional
- PETTECH Pet CPR and First Aid Instructor
This combination of training, education, and leadership experience allows me to bring a practical, structured, and professional approach to the work I do.
